Regular India captain Rohit Sharma was all praises for all-rounder Axar Patel as his heroics with the bat in the recently played second ODI between West Indies and India helped the Men in Blue win the close encounter by just 2 wickets and take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series.

It was an amazing match that had every ingredient of a pot-boiler as West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran chose to bat first on a pitch that seemed similar to the one on which the first ODI was played. It proved to be true as the ball has dual pace onto it, but Shai Hope, playing in his 100th ODI showcased amazing patience and guile to hit an amazing 115 runs.

He was supported by captain Nicholas Pooran who smacked 74 runs in quick time as West Indies posted 311 runs on the board batting first. It was an amazing knock by Hope as he had to face some testing bowling by the Indian attack.

India started off poorly with captain Shikhar Dhawan making a laborious 13 runs in 31 balls. But Shubman Gill made a good-looking 43. Then Shreyas Iyer (63) and Sanju Samson (54) brought India back into the game.

The West Indies bowlers then picked regular wickets to keep the scoring rate in check and in the end it came down to Axar Patel to herd the tail with him as India needed around 100 runs in the last 10 overs.

Patel slammed 5 sixes and 3 fours on his way to a maiden ODI fifty and remained unbeaten on 64 in 35 balls as India won the match in the last over with two wickets in hand. This also gave India a lead of 2-0 with the last ODI to be played on July 27.

Rohit Sharma, who was rested for the ODIs, took to Twitter to laud Axar Patel and posted: “Woah ? that was some performance from team India last night. Bapu badhu Saru che @akshar2026 @bcci”

To this, Axar Patel replied: “Badhu saru che rohit bhai ? thanks.. cheers ?”
