WI vs IND: Arshdeep Singh Should Play In The 3rd ODI: Parthiv Patel
In the third and final ODI against Nicholas Pooran’s West Indies, former wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes Arshdeep Singh should be given a shot in place of either Mohammed Siraj or Shardul Thakur.
The left-arm pacer, Arshdeep only played in one T20I during the tour of England and hasn’t worn the national uniform since.
Avesh Khan, who replaced Prasidh Krishna for the second One-Day International at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, made his ODI debut but he was below par in his first game.
The Indian Batters Need To Convert Their Starts Into Big Scores: Parthiv Patel
Arshdeep received support from Patel, who asserted that the addition of a left-arm pacer gives a team’s bowling attack a new dimension.
“I would like to see Arshdeep replace someone in the bowling attack, maybe Thakur or Siraj. I want to see how Arshdeep copes with bowling 10 overs in the heat. We have all seen what he can do in T20 cricket. Having a left-handed bowler gives you a slight advantage,” Patel was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
Patel meanwhile urged the Indian batters to follow through on their beginnings after locking eyes. To support his claims, the veteran cited Shai Hope as an example.
“The Indian batters are getting starts and playing well, but they should try to convert it as Shai Hope did for West Indies,” he added.
In his 100th ODI, Hope became the 10th batter to make a century, but it ultimately came in a losing effort. The Men in Blue won the match by two wickets with two balls remaining thanks to an outstanding performance by Axar Patel.
India now holds a 2-0 series advantage with the third game scheduled for Trinidad on Wednesday, July 27.
