After winning the toss, Nicholas Pooran chose to field first. With Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma opening the innings, India threw a surprise at the top of the order.

They quickly reached 44 in just 5 overs, but after Surya was dismissed, the team lost its way. Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Iyer were all dismissed in quick successions.

But Rohit advanced the innings. He was all ready to launch into the 5th gear in the death overs but he was dismissed by Jason Holder. Soon after, Ravindra Jadeja followed.

India appeared to be headed for barely 160 at one stage, but Dinesh Karthik saved the day once more, much as he had against South Africa earlier this year. He contributed to India’s first-inning 190 run total with a score of 41 not out off 19 balls.
He had trouble getting his eye in when he initially arrived at the crease, but once he did, he made the WI bowlers pay.

190 Was A Challenging Score To Chase: Nicholas Pooran

Because Indian spinners continued taking wickets, WI’s chase never got going. They eventually scored just 122 runs in 20 overs and lost the first game international match at the Brian Lara stadium by 68 runs.

After the game, Pooran said, “Disappointed as a team. The crowd has been amazing. The players have been feeling very hurt but we will look to bounce back. 18 overs, it was 150, we were indisciplined and we paid the price. 190 was very challenging. We got a good start but the batters did not carry on.

We had already lost four wickets in the first ten overs. The spinners did bowl well, but we were looking to restrict them to 170-180 and that would have been chaseable.

Pooran would hope that they can make a comeback in the next match.
