IND vs WI: You Can Keep Shubman Gill Up There With Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul And Shikhar Dhawan In Terms Of Openers – Scott Styris

Former New Zealand National Cricket Team all-rounder Scott Styris has said that the 22-year-old Shubman Gill is very impressive as a batter and he is right up there with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan as an opener.

The 22-year-old Gill was in spectacular form in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against West Indies National Cricket Team, where India National Cricket Team won the series by 3-0.

The right-handed batsman smashed 64 runs in the first game of the series, which was his maiden ODI half-century. In the second ODI, he looked elegant with the bat and scored 43 runs. Shubman Gill smashed unbeaten 98 runs in the final ODI before rain interrupted the game and he was unable to score his maiden ODI century.

Gill finished as the leading run-getter in the ODI series and he scored 205 runs in 3 innings at an average of 102.50. Also, his 98* runs knock in the final ODI helped him win the Player of the Match Award and he was also the Player of the Series Award winner.

I still think there are holes in his game – Scott Styris on Shubman Gill

While talking about Gill’s emergence as a prominent white-ball opener, former New Zealand all-rounder Styris said the 22-year-old still has some technical flaws in his game. However, he admitted that Gill has got the mental thought process and maturity to become a world-class player.

“I still think there are holes in his game. I think there are holes in his technique that the opposition will look to exploit, but he’s got all the skills and the other component. What makes a World class player is their mental thought process and their maturity and leadership.

“And I think he has that as well. And for that reason, yes you’re quite right you can keep him up there with the Rohits, KL Rahuls and Shikhars in terms of openers,” Styris said on Sports18’s show ‘Sports Over The Top’.
