WI vs IND: It Was Not An Easy Wicket To Start On - Dinesh Karthik
Nicholas Pooran won the toss and decided to field first. India threw a surprise at the top of the order with Suryakumar Yadav opening the innings with Rohit Sharma. They raced to 44 inside 5 overs but once Surya got out, the team lost its way. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya all got out for low scores.
But Rohit took the innings forward. As he was looking to get a move on in the death overs, he was dismissed. Ravindra Jadeja soon followed him. At one point it seemed India might end up with only 160 but Dinesh Karthik came to India’s rescue again as he had done against South Africa earlier this year. He scored 41 not out off 19 balls and helped India score 190 runs in their first innings.
He struggled when he first came at the crease but once he got his eye in he made the WI bowlers pay.
WI never got going in their chase as Indian spinners kept picking wickets. They eventually managed only 122 runs in their 20 overs and lost the game by 68 runs.
I Have Been Enjoying My New Role A Lot: Dinesh Karthik On His New Role As A Finisher
Karthik after the game said, “The wicket was a little sticky. Was not a good wicket to start on but once set, it was good. I have been enjoying it a lot.
It’s not something that you can be consistent at but I have the backing of the captain and coach. Assessing the wicket is important. There are a lot of things that you need to be aware of. That comes with a little bit of practice.
Dinesh Karthik would hope to continue the same form going ahead in the series as he did not have the best of times against England and Ireland
