India National Cricket Team captain KL Rahul ahead of the first match of the three-match ODI series against Regis Chakabva-led Zimbabwe National Cricket Team went down memory lane to the time when he made his debut for India National Cricket Team in limited-overs cricket in 2016 in Harare.

The India tour of Zimbabwe 2022 will consist of a three-match ODI series that will be played on August 18, 20 and 22 at the Harare Sports Club.

Initially, Dhawan was announced as Team India’s skipper for the Zimbabwe tour. However, KL Rahul, who was a last-minute addition to the squad, replaced Dhawan as the captain a few days after the squad announcement.

Notably, Rahul was added to the squad to ensure he has some game-time ahead of the marquee Asia Cup 2022 tournament as he has been out of action since the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Rahul made his ODI debut for India National Cricket Team against Zimbabwe National Cricket Team in Harare on June 11, 2016, and smashed a sensational century to bag the Player of the Match award.

Also, he made his T20I debut in Harare against Zimbabwe on June 18, 2016. However, he was unable to replicate his ODI batting brilliance and got out for a golden duck.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, KL Rahul said that it is a special feeling for him to play at the Harare Sports Club as he made his white-ball debut at the venue. He added that he is pleased to get the opportunity to lead Team India at the same place where he made his debut.

“It’s a very special feeling. Great memories from this ground. My ODI and T20I debut happened here in Harare. Hopefully, I can add on to those memories, coming back here after so many years and getting the opportunity to lead your country is very pleasing. As a person, you see how much you have grown as a player,” Rahul was quoted as saying in the pre-match press conference.
