IND vs ZIM: KL Rahul Should Open In The Zimbabwe Series – Wasim Jaffer

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Wasim Jaffer believes that the stand-in India captain KL Rahul should open the innings for his side in the ODI series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team.

KL Rahul will be playing the game for the first time since the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in the series against Zimbabwe.

Notably, Rahul had suffered a groin injury and later contracted Covid-19 which had led to him missing out on the five-match home T20I series against South Africa, two-match T20I series against Ireland, a Test match, three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series against England, and three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series against West Indies.

The India tour of Zimbabwe 2022 consists of a three-match ODI series that will be played on August 18, 20 and 22 in Harare. VVS Laxman will be assisting the Men In Blue on the tour along with his NCA staff in the absence of head coach Rahul Dravid, who will be working with India’s Asia Cup 2022 squad.

Shikhar Dhawan was set to lead India in the series, however, KL Rahul was added to the team on his request to ensure he has vital match time ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 and was also handed over the captaincy responsibility.

On Wednesday, August 17, Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter to assert that Rahul, who last played a white-ball game for Team India in February 2022 against West Indies at home, should open for India as he coming back to the team after a long time and needs game time.

India’s squad for 3 ODIs: KL Rahul (captain) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj and Deepak Chahar.
