Shubman Gill, the team’s opening batsman, is unaffected by critics who raise issues regarding his inability to bat at a healthy strike rate in white-ball cricket.
He stated in an interview with Telegraph India that he is unconcerned about the criticism that surrounds his strike rate. The right-handed batter claimed that his primary priority is to fulfill the demands of the team’s management.
“I believe there will always be questions, but I do not care what people think as long as I can help my team succeed and as long as I am acting by what my captain and team management demand of me,” Shubman Gill Said.
The talented youngster rejoined India’s ODI team after an absence of more than 18 months when he was chosen for the just finished West Indies trip. He was named the Player of the Series because of his outstanding performance.
Shubman Gill on working with head coach Rahul Dravid:
Throughout his time with the India ‘A’ and U19 teams, Shubman Gill closely worked with Rahul Dravid. He acknowledged that the focus of his conversations with the head coach has been more on the batter’s ability to maintain the proper attitude and prepare psychologically for the trials.
“Even though I am generally delighted, I was not pleased with how I fared in the first few games. Nevertheless, scoring those runs in the Caribbean was a pretty positive experience for me altogether. Yes, receiving such opportunities was also beneficial.”
“My conversations with Rahul Sir have mostly focused on developing the proper mindset and making the most of my opportunities. We have not done much work on the technological side of things, to be honest. It focuses more on the game’s mental aspect.”
To secure a spot in India’s star-studded ODI lineup, the opening batter will need to have a significant impact on the series against Zimbabwe.
