IND vs ZIM: Revealed - Why KL Rahul Is Not Included In India's Squad For Zimbabwe ODI Tour

On Saturday, July 30, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member ODI squad of the India National Cricket Team for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe and star opening batsman KL Rahul was not included in the team.

The India tour of Zimbabwe 2022, consists of a three-match ODI series that will be played on August 18, August 20 and August 22 at the Harare Sports Club.

Shikhar Dhawan has been named as India’s skipper for the series and Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal have all been rested. Also, Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar have returned to the squad while Rahul Tripathi has got his maiden ODI call-up.

KL Rahul Not Fully Recovered From Covid-19

As per a report in Cricbuzz, a health update on star India National Cricket Team opening batsman KL Rahul was discussed at the selection meeting on Saturday and the 30-year-old has not yet recovered from the Covid-19, as a result, he was not included in the squad for Zimbabwe tour.

Notably, Rahul was included in India’s T20I squad for the five-match T20I series against West Indies, but his availability was subject to fitness. However, he was tested positive for Covid-19 on July 21 ahead of his West Indies departure.

KL Rahul has been out of action since the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 concluded after suffering a groin injury and he will overall miss his 7th series for India this year.

Rahul is expected to be fit for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, which will be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE) from August 27 to September 11. Also, the deadline to announce the squad for the Asia Cup 2022 is August 8, as per Cricbuzz.
