The IPL debutant had a great start in the lucrative tournament as they were leading in the top two positions in the first half of the tournament.
Defeats to Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals in the later part of the group stage pushed them to third place in the IPL 2022 points table.
LSG lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by 14 runs in the Eliminator game despite KL Rahul’s 79 in the 208-run chase.
Rahul was the second-most run-scorer of the tournament with 616 runs in 15 innings behind Jos Buttler (863).
Rahul’s opening partner Quinton de Kock slammed 140 runs off 70 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in LSG’s final league stage game.
With 18 wickets in 15 games at 23.11, Avesh Khan was the leading wicket-taker of the IPL debutants.
Let us look at 5 players Lucknow Super Giants will release ahead of next year’s IPL auction.
5 Players Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Can Release Ahead Of IPL 2023
1. Evin Lewis
The West Indies flamboyant batter wasn’t utilised efficiently by the Lucknow Super Giants as the 30-year-old played just six games this year.
Lewis smashed 55 off 23 balls, including six fours and three sixes, to guide LSG in a 210-run chase against Chennai Super Kings.
After scores of 1 and 5 in the next two innings, Lewis was benched to accommodate all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder in the team.
During the Eliminator game against RCB, Lewis has pushed down the batting order, though, LSG were chasing 208.
2. Manish Pandey
Pandey scored 88 runs in six innings at an abysmal average of 14.67 and a strike rate of 110.
Pandey’s best score of 38 this season came against Mumbai Indians in the first leg. The Karnataka skipper failed to bring his experience to the Lucknow franchise’s advantage.
Pandey was dropped from the team after the LSG’s second leg against Mumbai Indians, where he scored run-a-ball 22.
3. Andrew Tye
Tye played just three games and picked a couple of wickets against CSK.
LSG played Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera in 12 games this season in the pace bowling attack while Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder were the two all-rounders used as extra bowling options.
If LSG plans to retain Chameera, Stoinis and Holder then Tye could be released ahead of IPL 2023.
4. Ankit Rajpoot
Rajpoot was seen warming the bench throughout the season for LSG.
The Uttar Pradesh pacer has collected 24 scalps in 29 IPL games for Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.
5. Kyle Mayers
Mayers, on the back of his double-hundred for West Indies in red-ball cricket, garnered attention across the globe.
He hasn’t bowled enough in white-ball cricket but has standalone performance in Tests.
Mayers’ Test credentials were overshadowed by the presence of overseas power-hitters like Stoinis, Holder and Lewis.
