CSK vs KKR: MS Dhoni Can Join These Indian Batters In This Elusive Record List In The IPL 2022 Opener

Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is on the verge of etching his name in the record books in the IPL 2022 opener between CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

Dhoni has scored 4746 runs in 220 IPL matches at an average of 39.55 and a strike rate of 135.83, he has accumulated 23 50-plus scores with 48-ball 84* against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2019 is his highest score to date.

MS Dhoni amassed 1617 runs in T20I cricket for India

Dhoni scored 1617 T20 International runs in the Indian colours, the former Indian skipper aggregates 6935 runs from 347 T20 matches in his illustrious career. He is just 65 runs shy of completing the landmark of 7000 T20 runs, which will make him the sixth Indian player to reach the feat.

In the IPL 2022 opener, Dhoni has the opportunity to join the elusive list of Virat Kohli (10273 runs), Rohit Sharma (9895 runs), Shikhar Dhawan (8775 runs), Suresh Raina (8654 runs) and Robin Uthappa (7042 runs).

Dhoni also played T20 cricket for the Jharkhand state team in the initial years of his career and also led CSK in the Champions League Twenty20 competition where he won two titles.

Dhoni recently relinquished CSK’s captaincy duties after he led the franchise in 213 IPL matches in 12 seasons of the lucrative tournament. Dhoni passed on the captain’s armband to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” a CSK statement read.

CSK won four IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018 & 2021) and two Champions League T20 trophies (2010 and 2014). Dhoni, in fact, was the only captain of an IPL team who led CSK right from the inception of the cash-rich league in 2008, former CSK batter Suresh Raina is the only other player to have captained the Yellow Army in Dhoni’s absence on six instances.
