Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra hilariously explained Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis’ dismissal against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday.

RCB lost to CSK by 23 runs as the latter secured its first win of the season, courtesy of a 165-run stand between Robin Uthappa (88) and Shivam Dube (95*). The duo escalated CSK’s total to 216/4 after they were stuck at 36/2 just after the powerplay.

CSK vs RCB: RCB faltered early in the chase

The expectations to set the tone for the big chase was on du Plessis’ shoulders but the skipper perished for just eight runs after mishitting one-shot straight to long-on. RCB were reduced to 50/4 at the end of the seventh over and Theekshana made a remarkable IPL debut with 4/33.

Suyash Prabhudesai, who batted ahead of Karthik, joined Shahbaz Ahmed at the crease. The duo put up 60 runs in their alliance to keep RCB in the game. Suyash played the aggressor’s role as he scored an enterprising 18-ball 34.

Chopra said that RCB failed to put up a fight in the powerplay overs but hailed the middle-order batters for their resistance against CSK.

“It seemed there will be a fight but nothing like that happened because Faf got out at the start. Theekshana’s mystery made Faf history, I mean for this match. After that, Kohli finds the only fielder in the deep off Mukesh Choudhary’s short ball,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“Maxwell comes and plays a few big shots but then he falls prey to Jaddu (Jadeja). Anuj Rawat gets out and it seemed this team might not even make 125 but they started fighting from there – whether it was Shahbaz or Prabhudessai – both of them batted well, took the attack to the opposition,” he added.

RCB will play their next game against Delhi Capitals on April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
