Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Shikhar Dhawan is likely to etch his name in the record books of IPL on Wednesday when his side faces his former team Delhi Capitals in Mumbai. Dhawan is the most prolific batter in the Punjab team who can provide the perfect start to the innings with his natural range of shots.
The southpaw has scored 205 runs in six innings at 34.17 and a strike rate of 128.93 so far in IPL 2022. Dhawan’s best performance this season came against Mumbai Indians as his 50-ball 70 guided Punjab Kings to a commendable 198/5 and they eventually won the match by 12 runs.

Dhawan has accumulated 5989 runs in 197 IPL innings at an overall average of 34.82 with 45 half-centuries and a couple of hundreds to his name. The Indian batter is just 11 runs shy of completing 6000 IPL runs and will become only the second batter to achieve the milestone after former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli leads the scoring charts of IPL with 6402 runs in 206 innings at 36.79.
Dhawan already holds the record for most boundaries in IPL (674) with Kohli being second on the list with 555 fours. The 36-year-old led PBKS against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday (April 17) in regular skipper Mayank Agarwal’s absence. Agarwal missed the game owing to a toe injury but as Dhawan had asserted ahead of the SRH game, the former is likely to return to the side for the next game.

Apart from Punjab Kings, Dhawan also played for Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, now-defunct Deccan Chargers, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He played the most IPL games for SRH scoring 2518 runs in 85 innings followed by the Delhi outfit (2066 runs in 63 innings).
The match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings has been shifted from the MCA stadium in Pune to the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai following the COVID-19 outburst in the Delhi camp.
All-rounder Mitchell Marsh and four other non-playing members of the Delhi Capitals contracted the COVID-19 virus. Physiotherapist Patrick Farhat was the first member to test positive on April 15 and sports massage therapist Chetan Kumar caught the infection on April 16.
