GT vs DC: Shubman Gill Needs To Give Himself Time At The Crease: Ravi Shastri
IPL 2022: Former India captain and coach Ravi Shastri has said that Shubman Gill needs to give himself time at the crease if he wants to score big.
Shubham Gill was acquired by the new franchise Gujarat Titans in the players’ draft ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League season.
Gill in his first match for the Titans got out for a duck. He attempted a fancy shot in the very first over only to get caught in the 30-yard circle.
“I’m a big fan of Gill. He’s got every shot and a great attitude. He has to focus on shot selection and spend time in the middle. Even if he scores two in the first six balls, he can make up for it in the next six balls. He’s got the talent. He should be calm instead of over-trying. Gill has had many injuries but he is looking confident now. He picked that brilliant catch against Lucknow and his attempt shows that he’s forgotten about the injury,” Shastri elaborated on ESPNCricinfo.
Ravi Shastri Compares Mohammad Shami To Kapil Dev
Shastri was all praise for Mohammad Shami who playing in his first match for GT rattled the Lucknow Super Giants’ top order. He picked up KL Rahul’s wicket on the very first ball of the game. He then castled Quinton De Kock and Manish Pandey with in-dippers. His exploits in the powerplay meant that LSG could only manage 158 runs in their innings.
“He’s got very fit and hungry. And, he’s got swing in his hands. I used to say, ‘Wake Kapil Dev at 2 am and ask him to bowl. He will bowl superb outswing’. Few players including Shami have got that skill. His seam release is brilliant. only Jimmy Anderson comes close. Irrespective of the format, Shami’s seam presentation helps him get movement. Mumbai tracks have got a bit of moisture at the start and Shami can get a couple of wickets in the opening spell,” Shastri said on ESPNCricinfo.
Gujarat Titans would hope that Shami continues with his rich form and also would like Gill to play more maturely.
