Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has indicated that Gujarat Titans (GT) may end up replacing Alzarri Joseph with Lockie Ferguson in the IPL 2022 final against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Manjrekar stated that the Narendra Modi Stadium playing surface will aid pace bowlers early on. That’s why he believes GT should reintroduce Lockie Ferguson in the spot of Alzarri Joseph.
Sanjay Manjrekar highlighted that Joseph was costly in Qualifier 1 and that it would be difficult for the team to give him an opportunity in the final. Despite Ferguson’s loss of form, Manjrekar believes he is a good proposition because he has more expertise in the field in the cash-rich league.
“GT could end up replacing Alzarri Joseph with Lockie Ferguson, in my opinion. It might be on the pitch for teams bowling first, hence why they might make these changes.
“Ferguson does have more IPL experience, and Joseph gave up 27 runs in his last two overs. Ferguson is not really in great shape, but they’ll still go ahead with him,” Manjrekar Added.
‘The benefit will be the same for both RR and GT’: Sanjay Manjrekar
Speaking of home advantage, Manjrekar mentioned that teams such as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) consider playing in their very own backyard because the spin-friendly tracks accommodate their players.
“When it comes to home advantage, CSK had it because the wicket was a turning one that would suit their team. However, the pitch used for the playoffs is unlikely to change significantly. Both RR and GT will have an advantage because they have in-form players in their teams” Sanjay Manjrekar Said.
On Sunday, May 29, RR and GT will square off in the long-awaited IPL 2022 final. The competition is slated to start at 8:00 PM IST at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
