Gujarat Titans Did Well To Chase That Score: Sanju Samson
In the first ten overs, his decision to field first was spot on, as GT quickly dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal. He’d been in excellent form for RR in recent games. Jos Buttler, the competition’s leading run-scorer, struggled to get going. Sanju Samson, on the other hand, was in high spirits when he started his account with a six. He finished with 47 off 26 balls.
Buttler struggled throughout the Innings but eventually finished with 89 runs. Devdutt Padikkal also got 28 important runs in the middle overs. RR finished their innings at 188.
GT did not get to a great start as Trent Boult dismissed an in-form Wriddhiman Saha in the first over of the chase. But then Shubham Gill and Matthew Wade added 72 runs for the 2nd wicket.
The tide changed in favour of RR as they got 2 wickets within 12 runs but then, Pandya and David Miller combined together and added more than 100 runs and got their team over the line. Miller ended the chase with 3 consecutive sixes.
Eventually, GT won by 7 wickets.
Sanju Samson after the game said, “We were happy with the score. The wicket was a bit sticky. It was helping bowlers, there was a swing in the powerplay. It was two-paced, and the bounce was not even. I was lucky to get a few runs in the powerplay… That kind of total in that kind of conditions was great… Having Riyan helps [as a bowling option], but the wicket was good to bat in the second innings. We have been playing good cricket… A couple of overs and extra runs here and there… Luck plays a huge role; toss plays a huge role. Controllable is just to come back and express yourself.”
RR will have a second crack at the Finals when they play in the Qualifier 2.
