IPL 2022: Aakash Chopra Responds To Shreyas Iyer's Clarification Of His Remark That The KKR CEO Is Engaged In Team Selection

Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels Shreyas Iyer was instructed by team management to amend his remarks.

On his YouTube channel, the former cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash speculated that the KKR board may have wanted Iyer to clarify his remarks against Mysore.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer previously confirmed that the franchise’s CEO Venky Mysore was also engaged in the starting lineup decision during the ongoing IPL 2022. The KKR captain then explained that he believed the CEO was present to console teammates who were sitting out.

He said that following his ejection against Rajasthan Royals, Iyer ‘appeared agitated’ in discussion with head coach Brendon McCullum (RR). According to Aakash Chopra,

In a press conference, “Shreyas Iyer stated that the KKR CEO is also engaged in team selection. I believe he was rapped on the knuckles and instructed to modify his statement.

“He later explained that he meant that the CEO inspires and supports players who have been dropped, but that he is not engaged in team selection,” Aakash Chopra said.

“However, I’m not convinced because we witnessed him extremely upset while chatting to Brendon McCullum after getting out against RR in one match.”
For next year’s cash-rich league, the franchise is anticipated to make some changes to its coaching staff. Brendon McCullum will not be the team’s head coach any longer. After the team was eliminated, he stepped down from his post. He has been named the new coach of England’s Test team.

The Kolkata-based team got off to a great start, winning three of their first four matches. Soon after, they battled with consistency and dropped to the bottom part of the standings.
