Not KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, or Shreyas Iyer, however, Hardik Pandya arose as an enormous India captaincy competitor from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. In a never-seen-before role, Hardik drove the Gujarat Titans the whole way to their first IPL title.
While fans in Gujarat will be cheering Hardik’s accomplishment, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja feels there will be those in Mumbai who could be bringing in torment seeing the all-rounder become a ‘champion’.
Hardik wasn’t one of Mumbai Indians’ retentions after the IPL 2021 season. Gujarat didn’t waste any moment roping him in as a captain. However, there were the individuals who questioned Hardik, the all-rounder who arose as a genuine match-champ and pioneer for his side.
Mumbai Indians Made Hardik Pandya: Ajay Jadeja
“He is one of those who gets inspired by the crowd. He likes the crowd, likes the people. If there is any dard (pain) it will be felt by the Mumbai fans. They will probably feeling that pain today, not the Gujarat fans,” said Jadeja on Cricbuzz.
Mumbai Indians had a major impact on Pandya’s improvement as a cricketer. The all-rounder began to gain from greats like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma right off the bat in his career. Jadeja feels the Surat-born cricketer has picked the best attributes from the trio.
“He has picked the best from each one of them. You have got to keep learning, it is a process in life. Experience will always make you better. He has had a great run here but he is definitely going to learn as he grows. He has probably grasped most from (MI).
He has come from Baroda, played local cricket there but Mumbai Indians made Hardik Pandya. The Pandya we see today is thanks to Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma the captain and everyone else over there. I think MI has a better set up to educate you”.
The Personality Off The Field Does Not Matter: Virender Sehwag
Hardik Pandya has been the kind of character who hasn’t been perceived by everybody. Off the field debates over his way of life have seen him court analysis now and again. Be that as it may, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag doesn’t feel such discussions matter as with regards to on-the-field execution, individuals love Pandya for how he can manage the bat and the ball.
“The personality off the field does not matter, it is absolutely irrelevant. Because it makes no impact on the field. Hardik Pandya has stood apart across all three departments this season. People love Pandya because of the things he does on the field, not off the field,” Sehwag had told Cricbuzz.
GT Will Come With The Pressure Of Being Champions: Virender Sehwag
“It is not like GT had a star-studded coaching staff. Apart from Gary Kirsten, they were relatively inexperienced. But, they played their role really well. They have supported the players really well and given them what they want,” he further added.
Gujarat wasn’t considered among the title challengers in front of the beginning of the IPL 2022 auction yet they astounded everybody by going as far as possible in the competition. Sehwag feels the side will have extra tension on its shoulders next season when they will show up for the tournament as “champions”.
“In the next tournament, GT will come with the pressure of being champions. That’s because everyone will hold expectations from them now. Now we will see how they perform under pressure.”
