The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to conduct the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League in Indian conditions but have kept overseas conditions as a backup.

As COVID-19 cases are rising in India with the new variant Omicron is rapidly spreading in the country. The Indian board postponing a few tournaments like the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy and the Ranji Trophy, IPL in India looks uncertain.

BCCI mulling to host IPL 2022 in India

Last year the BCCI had initially conducted a few IPL matches in India but later had to suspend the tournament owing to rising COVID-19 cases in India in the second wave of the pandemic.

The board has conducted its last two IPL finals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the Gulf nation hasn’t seen more cases in comparison to India.

A source from BCCI said that the board is considering all the options available at their disposal. The board wants to stage the lucrative tournament in India itself but will aim to complete the auction first.

“We are exploring all options which include overseas IPL as well. But our focus is to host the IPL in India for sure. As of now our priority is auction, we will soon take a call,” a source privy to the development said, as reported by India Today.
