Deepak Chahar, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Rs. 14 crores buy in the IPL 2022 auction, has been all but ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League 15 thanks to picking up a back injury while rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for his quad tear.

Chahar has been one of the vital cogs for CSK in the past few seasons as he picks up crucial wickets in the powerplay and was one of the major reasons why they won their fourth IPL title in 2021. He, unfortunately, was injured during the T20I series against West Indies suffering a quad tear.

This meant that the Chennai Super Kings entered the IPL 2022 without their main bowler and their fortunes have been very bad to say the least. CSK have lost all four of their matches thus far under the new captain Ravindra Jadeja.

No Chance Of His Availability: Reports Suggest Deepak Chahar Could Miss The Entire IPL 2022

While CSK has always claimed that their Rs 14 crore buy would be fit before the second week of April, the seriousness of the tear was such that there was “no chance of his availability” in the tournament.

Chahar has been at the NCA for more than a month now, recovering from the quadricep tear he picked during India’s T20I series against West Indies in February. Initially, it was believed that Chahar would miss a major part of the IPL, but his quick recovery kept CSK optimistic about a late April return.

According to sources, the India and CSK bowler suffered a back injury during his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Now with Deepak Chahar suffering a back injury at the NCA, a formal report of the gravity of this injury yet to be released to the franchise by the BCCI, chances of his availability for the IPL 2022 is more or less become nil.

The BCCI wouldn’t want to risk him playing in the IPL due to an injury that might hamper his chances to play in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia later this year. A swing bowler with the new ball as well as an able lower-order hitter, Chahar’s absence has already hurt the balance of the Super Kings’ side so far this season.

Among still other options, Super Kings have KM Asif and Rajvardhan Hangargekar who can take the new ball for them in the matches to come.
