Virender Sehwag, a former Indian cricketer, says Royal Challengers Bangalore’s new leadership under Faf du Plessis has been a positive development. Virat Kohli holds high regard for du Plessis, and Sehwag believes that this mutual admiration comes in useful during crucial moments.

Although Kohli is always willing to offer counsel to the new captain, du Plessis possesses a strong enough personality to make the final decision. Sanjay Bangar, the head coach, has also worked with Kohli for Team India, which Virender Sehwag believes will benefit RCB.

The Combination of Faf du Plessis and Sanjay Bangar Has Worked Well For RCB: Virendra Sehwag

Here’s what Virender Sehwag had to say about Kohli and his role in the leadership group in an interview with Cricbuzz:

“If an Indian player had been captain and if Virat Kohli had given him some advice, he might have had to accept it under pressure. So this is what has changed with du Plessis as captain. Sanjay Bangar has also worked with Kohli and he can have a conversation with him about that although he gives advice, the team wants to do something else.”

Virat Kohli resigned from RCB’s captaincy after leading the team from 2013-to 2021. The best performance of the team came in the 2016 season under Virat as RCB finished just short of winning the title. They lost the final to Sunrisers Hyderabad by just 8 runs.

It was also Kohli’s best season with the bat as he scored 973 runs in the tournament. It is still a record in the IPL. After his resignation, there was a lot of speculation about who would lead RCB, just days ahead of IPL 2022 Faf du Plessis was announced as the new skipper of the side, and RCB has qualified for the third consecutive time for the playoffs.
