Harshal Patel’s ability to mask his changes, according to India’s cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, is one of the reasons the 31-year-old Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler has performed very well in the last two Indian Premier League (IPL) campaigns.

Patel won the Purple Cap in the IPL 2021 after bagging 32 wickets in 15 games for the then-Virat Kohli-led squad, with his best statistics of 5/27.

In the mega auction prior to the new campaign, the Bengaluru franchise acquired him back for a hefty Rs 10.75 crore. And the right-arm fast bowler hasn’t disappointed, with 18 wickets in 12 games.

Patel has had 96 wickets in the IPL since its inception in 2012. This season, he wants to take 100 IPL wickets.

RCB has 14 points from 13 games and can qualify for the playoffs if they win their last league game against Gujarat Titans by a large margin. They’d be relying on Patel to complete the task.

Patel has the potential to be an incredible gem for Indian cricket, according to Tendulkar.

On his YouTube channel, the legend called Patel “one of the most powerful death over bowlers.”

“Harshal Patel was the sole reason Punjab was able to score 209 points on the board. With each match, his bowling has gotten better as he has gotten better at hiding his variation. Harshal, you bowled beautifully, and I believe he is one of the best death-over bowlers in the country,” added the cricket legend.

In that encounter at the Brabourne Stadium on May 13, with Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone blasting Australian pacers Josh Hazlewood and Mohammed Siraj at will, it was Patel who brought sanity to the match, reducing the opponent to 209 when 240-250 looked a certainty.

Harshal Patel concluded with statistics of 4-0-34-4 at an economy rate of 8.50, while Hazlewood conceded 64 in four overs and Siraj went for 36 in two overs.
