Former Australia cricketer Shane Watson praised the choice to designate Faf as skipper, saying it was the correct choice after Kohli stepped down at the end of the 2021 season.
Watson admitted that RCB was one of his favorites even before the tournament began, due mainly to their fantastic auction.

Watson acknowledged on The Grade Cricketer after RCB’s 14-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 Eliminator on Wednesday in Kolkata that the team was one of his favorites even before the competition started, thanks to their fantastic auction.

“Before the tourney even started, RCB was one of my favorites due to just how well they ‘ve done in the auction as well as how their team is,” Faf du Plessis was an excellent acquisition for them.”

“Because, recognizing that Virat had been going to step down, Faf was presumably one of the very few players I assumed will do a fantastic job of picking the maximum out of Virat as skipper and steering the franchise in the appropriate path. It was a brilliant tactical move. He’s a wonderful man and a fantastic leader,” he said.

Shane Watson also mentioned Josh Hazelwood, Harshal Patel, and Dinesh Karthik as important players in RCB’s third straight playoff run. However, this would have been the franchise’s first Eliminator win in three years.

“Josh Hazlewood has shown us that previously with CSK, and now his bowling in T20s has gone way up in the last 18 months.” Harshal Patel has fought for value once more.”

“Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, has been a standout. Consider the innings against Lucknow. RCB could have remained stagnant a little, but he got 32 out of 16 balls to do that additional little burst,” Shane Watson said.

RCB will take on RR in Qualifier 2 on Friday in Ahmedabad.
