IPL 2022: "I Always Respect His Bowling, And He Reciprocates"- Wanindu Hasaranga On His Friendship With Yuzvendra Chahal

Wanindu Hasaranga of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has discussed his friendship spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal. With their bowling, the tandem has collected a combined total of 43 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Hasaranga made his debut in the competition last year after a strong home series against India. The Sri Lankan spinner was rewarded for his efforts when RCB bought him for $10.75 crore in the super auction. Hasaranga took over as the team’s top spinner when Chahal was released by the club.

Wanindu Hasaranga claimed on “RCB Bold Diaries” that he and Yuzvendra Chahal are close buddies off the ground:

“Yuzi and I played together for the back half of the season, so we’re excellent mates. I always admire his bowling, and he does the same for me.”

On social media, Chahal has constantly praised Hasaranga’s achievements in the field. During his bowling heroics against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) earlier in the league, he referred to the Sri Lankan as a “champion.”

‘RCB probably one of the best franchises’: Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga took a while to settle into the ongoing event, but he has since proven to be a formidable opponent. He recently became the third RCB bowler to take five wickets in the team’s convincing victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Hasaranga credited the coaching staff and players with fostering a family-like atmosphere in the franchise, saying:

“This is one of the best franchises; the players are cordial, and we treat each other like family. Sridharan Sriram, the head coach, and Mike Hesson have always been supportive of my bowling. They are all highly accomplished coaches, which is beneficial to us.”

To qualify for the playoffs, RCB will play the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Gujarat Titans (GT).
