Wood has just played one IPL game for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2018 against Mumbai Indians. The Durham pacer can offer genuine speed that can rattle the opposition batters, he has 26 scalps for England from 19 T20 International games at an economy rate of 8.76.

It’s a weird experience: Mark Wood on IPL auction

Wood was following his IPL auction with his family and explained the scenes at his house throughout his auction moment.

As soon as the final amount was confirmed Sarah asked what it was in pounds – I might have to freeze all our accounts so it doesn’t disappear. But we’re delighted. It’s a weird experience.

“It feels like a computer game – almost not real, like transfers on Football Manager – but it’s also very real when you get signed,” Wood was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“We were about to go away for the weekend for a wedding anniversary I missed in Australia but the IPL auctioneer falling ill on stage paused everything and delayed us setting off.

“Harry was meant to sleep in the car but just conked out on the sofa before my name came up. I remember Sarah shouting – but also whispering – ‘Get back here now,’ as I was putting some dishes in the sink. After a quiet start to the bidding, suddenly it moved fast and the numbers went up,” he added.

A total of 204 players were sold in the span of two days aggregating a sum of 551.7 crores as 10 teams were left with content to build formidable sides.
