IPL 2022 Mega Auction Date, Time, Players, Lucknow And Ahmedabad Team List, Remaining Purse Value

IPL 2022 auction is set to take place next month. All the 10 franchises are gearing up for exciting bidding wars during the event. With the addition of two new teams Lucknow and Ahmedabad, IPL 2022 is going to a 10-team tournament.

Ahead of the tournament, the old 8 franchises were asked to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squads. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders retained 4 players in their squads. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad retained 3 players each.

Punjab Kings went ahead with only 2 retentions. After the retentions process, the two new franchises were asked to pick three draft players from the pool of released players. Both the teams have completed this process. As of now, 33 players are already part of the 10 franchises.

IPL 2022 is expected to begin in March this year. March 27 is the tentative date for the opening game. Reports suggest that BCCI has finalized Mumbai and Pune as the venue for the tournament. However, a final decision will be taken next month on February 20 taking note of the COVID situation in Mumbai. Moreover, BCCI has kept South Africa as a viable option to conduct the tournament.

IPL 2022 mega auction is going to take place on February 12 and 13. The venue of the event is Bengaluru. A total of 1214 players have registered themselves for the auction.

The BCCI will send the list of these players to all franchisees, who will respond with a list of interested players. According to the response, players will be shortlisted for a final list. About 250 players are expected to go under the hammer this time.

Lucknow Franchise

The Lucknow franchise is owned by Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG group. The team recently unveiled their name for the tournament- Lucknow Super Giants. For the three draft players, Lucknow has picked KL Rahul for Rs. 17 crore, Marcus Stoinis for Rs. 9.2 crore, and Ravi Bishnoi for Rs. 4 crore.

KL Rahul is going to lead the team in the 2022 season. The franchise has roped in Andy Flower as their head coach. Vijay Dahiya has been picked as the assistant coach. Gautam Gambhir will be the mentor of the team.

Ahmedabad Franchise

Ahmedabad franchise is owned by CVC Capitals. The franchise is yet to announce its name for the tournament. For the three draft players, the team picked Hardik Pandya for Rs. 15 crore, Rashid Khan for Rs. 15 crore, and Shubman Gill for Rs. 8 crores.

Hardik Pandya will be the skipper of the team in IPL 2022. Gary Kirsten has been picked as the batting coach of the team while Ashish Nehra will be the bowling coach. Former England cricketer Vikram Solanki is the ‘Director of Cricket’.

Each team has got a total purse value of Rs. 90 crore for IPL 2022 auction. However, after retentions and draft players, there is a deduction in the purse value of each team. Now, Punjab Kings has the maximum salary purse available while Delhi Capitals has the least salary cap available. Below is the remaining purse value of each team.

Sunrisers Hyderabad- Rs. 68 crore

Rajasthan Royals- Rs. 62 crore

Lucknow Super Giants- Rs. 59.8 crore

Royal Challengers Bangalore- Rs. 57 crore

Ahmedabad- Rs. 52 crore

Chennai Super Kings- Rs. 48 crore

Kolkata Knight Riders- Rs. 48 crore

Mumbai Indians- Rs. 48 crore

Delhi Capitals- Rs. 47.50 crore
