Michael Vaughan, the former England captain called Shreyas Iyer the “best deal” of the mega auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League.

Many teams have also appointed new captains, with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) appointing Shreyas Iyer as their captain ahead of the season. In the auction, the KKR spent a stunning INR 12.25 crore for Iyer, and the franchise got off to a flying start in the tournament under his captaincy, winning three of their first four games.

The Kolkata Knight Riders are presently leading the points table, with former England captain Michael Vaughan claiming that Iyer’s acquisition was the “greatest deal” of the auction.

“I believe Shreyas to KKR was the finest deal in the auction.” It’s a huge change for KKR, in my opinion. He’s already proven to be an excellent captain for Delhi. But it’s his batting average that’s the problem. I admire his approach. “He understands how to control people, which is a big part of leadership,” Vaughan remarked on Cricbuzz.

Michael Vaughan feels that Rishabh Pant’s leadership is at an “infancy” stage:

On Sunday, the Knight Riders played the Delhi Capitals, Iyer’s former side, in their sixth match of the season. Rishabh Pant, the young wicketkeeper-batsman who leads DC, is in his “infancy” when it comes to leadership, as per Vaughan.

“Rishabh is still in the early stages of development. With Rishabh Pant, you never know what you’re going to get. We haven’t seen him at his best as a leader, and we haven’t seen him at his best as a batsman.”

From the outside, Rishabh’s best chance of becoming captain is to continue to be the flashy player that he is. He must be quite aggressive. He is a player who plays in this manner. “If he can achieve that level of performance, the rest of the team will follow suit,” Michael Vaughan added.

The Delhi Capitals put on a strong performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders, winning by 44 runs to move up to sixth place in the Indian Premier League table.
