In the presence of MS Dhoni, former Indian batsman and cricket analyst Aakash Chopra believes the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would not hurry to train their future leader.

MS Dhoni is one of the most successful IPL captains, having led CSK to four titles. With Dhoni coming to the end of his retirement, there is speculation regarding whether Ravindra Jadeja or Moeen Ali can be groomed to be the next CSK captain.

Aakash Chopra discussed why the Super Kings choose to live for the moment rather than look too far forward. He expressed his views in the following manner:

“There’s still time to prepare. But how will you go about doing it? It’s simple to put “VC” next to anyone’s name when a season starts. You must, however, determine whether or not they can truly provide useful ideas and insights.”

While Jadeja and Ali are feasible choices, Aakash Chopra believes that there is no need to hurry until Dhoni is in command. He continued, ”

“Jadeja and Moeen may certainly play a role in the decision-making process, but then when MS Dhoni is accessible, the game is over. Ravindra Jadeja seems to be the logical pick, having been kept for a higher fee than Dhoni. Will there be any grooming flashes, though? No, I don’t believe so.”

Wasim Jaffer shares Aakash Chopra’s opinions also on the future captain of CSK:

Wasim Jaffer also shared his thoughts on whether CSK would be interested in grooming their future captain when MS Dhoni was present. In a fast-paced game like T20s, Jaffer believes Dhoni will be preoccupied with decision-making but will have no time to groom the future captain.

Wasim Jaffer also believes that each captain will bring his or her style and philosophy to the team, eliminating the necessity for Dhoni’s grooming.

On March 26, the Chennai Super Kings will play the Kolkata Knight Riders in their first game of the IPL 2022 season.
