Aakash Chopra, a former India batter, feels SunRisers Hyderabad bowler Umran Malik is still not prepared to play for India.
Umran Malik of the SunRisers Hyderabad has had an excellent start to the present Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign. He seems to have a five-wicket performance against Gujarat Titans, bringing his total to 15 wickets.
The pacer has indeed been found lacking in the last 3 matches, failing to grab a single wicket. Although the pace bowler from Jammu is constantly touching 150kmph, he has indeed been leaking runs in recent outings. Former India batsman Aakash Chopra believes Umran Malik is still “raw” and not prepared to play for the national team.
Chopra remarked on ESPNcricinfo’s ‘Mute Me’ program: “Umran Malik isn’t quite ready to represent India anymore. Of course, we’re all enthusiastic to see him bowl 150 strikes; that’s what we’re most enthusiastic about.”
“But I believe the kid is still raw; he is still learning the ropes. He will play for India at some point, but I do not believe he is ready yet. I’m not saying this because the last two games have been mediocre” Aakash Chopra Said.
“I’m fine with him being in the team as well as around, but I believe there is still room for him to compete for India. He is not yet prepared. I believe you must feed him, defend him, and enable him to develop. You can’t just toss somebody into the deep end “Moreover, he stated
Ian Bishop, a former West Indian pacer, was not convinced by Aakash Chopra’s claims:
Ian Bishop, a former West Indies speedster, disagreed with Aakash Chopra, claiming that Umran had shown adequate control in the current season to be included in Team India’s selection.
“The bowler had a 157 mark. He possesses that which almost no one in the world possesses; in fact, I hardly think of anybody that possesses it. If he makes the team, I don’t think he’ll have to play alongside Bumrah right away, Shami.
“However, it will speed up his understanding even quicker than a couple of ‘A’ tours. In this IPL, he has shown sufficient control and understanding to be around a squad,” Bishop stated.
With 10 points from 11 games, SunRisers Hyderabad is presently in sixth place in the points table.
