Jammu and Kashmir pacer Umran Malik has taken the 2022 version of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by storm. While numerous youngsters and veteran players have been promoted to get an India call-up following their great show in the fifteenth edition of the money rich league, there have been none for anybody more than Malik.
One of the numerous cricketers, who have tossed their weight behind Malik’s quick bowling is former Indian wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani.

Syed Kirmani Shares His Opinion On Umran Malik’s Quick Bowling
Spruced up in a Pathani suit and a midriff coat, 72-year-old Syed Kirmani looked dazzling as he went to a function in Chandigarh on Friday. The former Indian wicketkeeper, who played in 88 Test matches and 49 One Day International (ODI) matches for India, remained India’s main wicketkeeper in the last part of the 1970’s and 80’s before he retired in 1986 with 2759 runs and 198 excusals in Test matches and 373 runs and 36 excusals in ODIs.

On being asked if he had to keep against the likes of IPL sensation speedster Umran Malik, the former Indian wicketkeeper opined:
“Well, nothing disrespectful to Umran, but I have seen bowlers who bowled in excess of 160 kmph. There were bowlers like Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Dennis Lille and Len Pascoe and plenty more whom I saw bowling. And we learnt a lot watching them bowl or how the ball behaved when they bowled. The pitches were too fast during those times.”

Umran Malik, who was with the Sunrisers Hyderabad as a net bowler for a couple of years, was drafted into the main team as T Natarajan’s COVID substitution. Having dazzled in a couple of games he played, SRH held him alongside captain Kane Williamson and fellow J&K cricketer Abdul Samad before the mega auction this year.
