IPL 2022: Vijay Dahiya Appointed As Assistant Coach By Lucknow Franchise

The Lucknow franchise has appointed former Indian cricketer Vijay Dahiya as the assistant coach for IPL 2022. Earlier, the franchise roped in Andy flower as the head coach and Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of the side.

Lucknow is one of the two new teams that will take part in IPL 2022. Ahmedabad is the other one. Lucknow franchise is owned by RPSG Group of Rajiv Goenka. The group won the bid for the new IPL franchise in October last year, after offering a bidding amount of over Rs. 7000 crore to BCCI.

Lucknow Appoints Vijay Dahiya As Assistant Coach

Lucknow has chosen former Indian wicketkeeper Vijay Dahiya as the new assistant coach of the team. 48-year-old has represented India in 2 Tests and 19 ODIs as a wicket-keeper batsman.

“I am delighted and grateful for the opportunity given to me to work with the Lucknow IPL franchise”, Vijay Dahiya said in a statement.

Vijay Dahiya is the current coach of the Uttar Pradesh team. He has earlier worked as assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, the team with two-IPL titles in their kitty. He also served as a talent scout for Delhi Capitals in the past. He was also the head coach of the Delhi Ranji team.

Lucknow franchise is gearing up for the IPL 2022 season, which is expected to take place in April 2022. A mega auction will also take place in February 2022, where all the teams will pick their favourite players for the squad. So far, a total of 27 players have been retained by the old 8 teams in their squad. They consist of 19 domestic players and 8 foreign players.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be allowed to pick 3 players from the pool of released players in their squad. Earlier, some reports claimed that Lucknow is in talks with KL Rahul for the captainship role.
