Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja was dissatisfied with the Kolkata Knight Riders’ choice to leave Venkatesh Iyer out of their IPL 2022 match against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
KKR, who use 20 players in ten games this season, more than any other team, chose all-rounder Anukul Roy over Iyer and dropped youthful Harshit Rana in favor of Shivam Mavi.
Although Iyer may not have the finest of campaigns thus far, Jadeja believes that a few poor performances in a few matches shouldn’t be used to dismiss Indian cricket prospects.
Jadeja made little attempt to disguise his feelings as he slammed the KKR team management, saying that such moves could establish “poor precedents” for Indian cricket.
“It’s as if you‘re trying to save your life and you’re willing to (sacrifice) Indian cricket because you come from various countries and run the squad the way you want for two months before leaving due to the contract.”
“Selection will always be a source of contention. However, if you start removing Indian team players after only a few matches, you’ll be setting a poor precedent for Indian cricket “Jadeja stated
‘The Indian cricketers should be backed’: Ajay Jadeja
Ajay Jadeja also mentioned the examples of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, saying that Indian cricketers should be supported.
“When it comes to performance, Virat Kohli hasn’t done much till the final game, Rohit Sharma hasn’t done much, and a lot of other players haven’t done much. It’s nearly hard for players to perform well in every game. I’m referring to the perspective of Indian cricket. It’s not that KKR’s team isn’t full of talented young players ” Ajay Jadeja Added.
After his disappointing performances in the first eight matches of the season, spinner Varun Chakravarthy was also forced to remain on the bench in the previous match. KKR is currently in seventh place with eight points from ten games.
