IPL 2022: Former India National Team head coach Ravi Shastri has said that Tilak Varma has shown a lot of composure and maturity.

Tilak Varma has got the opportunity to play for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2022 season. He was bought after a fierce bidding war between three sides. He was part of the 2020 U-19 world cup but couldn’t live up to his expectations.

He had a stellar domestic season after that which prompted franchises to notice him.

Tilak Varma played fantastic innings against Rajasthan Royals as he made 61 runs off 33 balls and played shorts all around the park.

Till he was at the crease, MI looked all set to chase the target. But as soon as he was dismissed, MI’s chase faltered as they lost continuous wickets.

Shastri on Star Sports said, “He has shown a lot of potential in his 2 innings so far. I am impressed looking at his wide range of shots, front foot, back foot, sweep.”

“There is lot of variation in his shot selection. His composure, body language, and temperament are very good for a young player. He has batted very confidently. This player has the potential to go ahead.”

Shastri also feels that once Suryakumar Yadav returns to the side, MI’s middle order would get more solidity.

“Once Suryakumar Yadav is back in the playing eleven, MI’s middle order will be strong,” said Shastri on Star Sports. Yadav has not played the first two games of MI because of an injury. Zaheer Khan before MI’s 2nd game had mentioned that Yadav is back with MI and would soon be eligible to play.

Mumbai Indians are still yet to open their account on the points table as they have lost both their games. In one game they couldn’t defend the target and in the other, they couldn’t chase the target. Mumbai would hope that Surya can play as soon as possible as right now they are lacking an experienced batter in the middle order.
