The 61st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) was played between Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday, May 14.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 54 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to bag their 6th win of the season.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bat first. KKR once again made notable changes to the playing XI as Umesh Yadav replaced injured Pat Cummins and Sam Billings replaced Sheldon Jackson.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s key players T Natarajan and Washington Sundar were back in the playing XI as they replaced Kartik Tyagi and Jagadeesha Suchith. Also, Marco Jansen was added to the playing XI in place of Farooqi.

Batting first, Kolkata Knight Riders openers Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane were able to add only 17 runs together as the former was cleaned up by Marco Jansen in the second over. However, Nitish Rana’s aggressive intent in the powerplay helped KKR score 55/1.

Jammu and Kashmir express pacer Umran Malik helped SRH make a comeback as he produced a double-wicket over in the 8th over by dismissing Nitish Rana and Ajinkya Rahane. Also, he dismissed KKR captain Shreyas Iyer in the 10th over.

In the end, Andre Russell’s brilliant unbeaten 49 runs knock and Sam Billings’ good 35 runs innings helped Kolkata Knight Riders score 177/6.

Chasing the target, Kane Williamson once again played an awful knock and he was dismissed on the second ball of the 6th over by all-rounder Andre Russell he was able to score just 9 runs off 17 balls, including one four. Soon Kiwi pacer Tim Southee was able to dismiss in-form batter Rahul Tripathi for 9.

SRH’s two of the most dependable batters Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram didn’t make any major contributions to the run chase as the former got out for 2 and the latter scored 32 runs.

In the end, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling unit kept doing a brilliant job and they were able to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad at 123/8.
