KL Rahul Very Excited To Join Lucknow Super Giants For IPL 2022, Says 'We Want To Build A Team That Competes Well'

KL Rahul is very excited to join his new IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2022. The franchise recently unveiled its name for the season. Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the two new teams that will participate in IPL 2022.

KL Rahul was signed by the Lucknow franchise recently. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been offered Rs. 17 crore to become part of the team. KL Rahul is also going to lead the side in the tournament. Earlier, the right-handed batsman led Punjab Kings in the last two seasons.

I’m Very Excited To Join Lucknow And The RPSG Group: KL Rahul

While speaking to Times of India, KL Rahul said that he is excited to join Lucknow Super Giants. He also said that the RPSG group will like to continue from their earlier success in Indian Premier League. RPSG group earlier owned the Rising Pune Supergiants team from IPL 2016 to 2017. In IPL 2017 season, the team also finished as runners-up after losing the final to Mumbai Indians.

“It’s very exciting. I think very few from my time will get this opportunity. The team is from scratch but the RPSG Group has had a couple of years in the IPL and they have experienced a bit of success. Hopefully we can all continue from there and build a franchise which will compete well and contribute some really good cricketers for our country. I’m very excited to join Lucknow and the RPSG Group. We had some chats and I was very happy. I didn’t have any second thoughts. Sir (franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka) and I really hit it off”, KL Rahul told TOI.

Lucknow Super Giants was asked to pick three players in their squad ahead of IPL 2022 auction. Other than Rahul, the team also signed Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and uncapped Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Now, the franchise is gearing up to pick their favourite players during IPL 2022 auction next month.

IPL 2022 auction is set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. So far, 1214 players have registered their names for the mega event. Out of these, about 250 players are expected to be shortlisted for the auction.
