Kolkata Knight Riders had to drop arguably their best bowler of the season for their game against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday.

Umesh Yadav is not included in the team due to an injury, Harshit Rana was included in his place. Rana came in as a replacement for Rasikh Salam, who was ruled out of the tournament earlier in the season.

Looking Forward To A Great Game: Shreyas Iyer

Kolkata Knight Riders started the season well as they won 2 of their first 3 games. Umesh Yadav played pivotal roles in those victories as he picked wickets in the powerplay and gave good starts to his side.

He is one of the best bowlers this season. He has picked up 15 wickets in 10 games and is 6th on the purple cap list. He has got the 2nd most wickets in the powerplay after Mohammad Shami.

While revealing the reason for Umesh Yadav’s exclusion from the side, during the toss, Iyer said, “We have got one change, unfortunately Umesh pulled his calf muscle and Harshit Rana comes in. It is really important as a captain to have a great combination right from the first game but there are so many injuries and niggles you have to keep chopping and changing, but that is part and parcel of the game.”

When asked about the team’s lack of success this season, he said, “it has not been great start for us but we are coming on the back of a good win. Looking forward to have a great one here. I want to convert the starts I am getting and playing to the situation more than thinking about my form.”

KKR need to win each and every game to be in contention to qualify for the playoffs.
