MS Dhoni will not lead the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2022 after handing up the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja today, but the Yellow Band will be looking to retain their title and add a fifth to their already crowded trophy cabinet.

Jadeja, who has been a key member of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be the team’s third captain. This season and beyond, Dhoni will continue to play for the Chennai Super Kings.

Super Kings have won four IPL titles and one Champions League trophy, and have only missed the playoffs once in their 13-year history. In a league like the IPL and a format like T20, MS Dhoni has an outstanding record and amount of consistency.

Ms Dhoni’s numbers as a skipper in the IPL remain remarkable:

“Since 2008, Dhoni has guided Chennai Super Kings in 204 matches. He’s won 121 games, lost 82, and had one match that resulted in a tie. He has a winning percentage of 59.60 per cent.”

“In the IPL, he has the most dismissals (161) of any player. There are 122 catches and 39 stumpings among these. Dhoni has been a specialist wicketkeeper in every season of the IPL since its inception in 2008. As a captain and keeper, he was instrumental in CSK’s success over the years.”

With four IPL wins and an unbelievable record of playoff qualifying, Dhoni is one of the most successful leaders in T20 league history. Dhoni has been the captain of CSK for virtually his entire tenure, having joined the team in the inaugural season of the T20 league in 2008.
