MI came into the season with a completely different-looking bowling lineup except for Jasprit Bumrah and the record champions’ struggles are clear to see from their opening game loss to Delhi Capitals. They followed in similar form with successive defeats to Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and most recently against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Versus RCB, Mumbai Indians opted for just 2 overseas players. It will be interesting to see if they use the fill-up quota in the upcoming games.

Toss will be a crucial factor in the match results. In the last 3 IPL matches played at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, the team who chose to chase the target has won 2 times, while only GT has managed to defend the target against DC on this ground. By looking at the records and general trend, the team winning toss should opt to bowl first.

According to weather.com, the highest temperature on April 13th will be about 39°C. There is only a 1% chance of precipitation. Humidity will be between 18 and 44%. The weather will be sunny on a matchday with temperatures ranging between 40°C and 24°C. The dew factor hadn’t influenced much in the past matches and that is why pitch has been favoring both the bowlers as well as batters here.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium, situated on the outskirts of Pune, Maharashtra was inaugurated in 2012 by then BCCI and ICC president Sharad Pawar. Popularly known as Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium and built by London’s Hopkins Architects, MCA Stadium initially served as home to now-defunct Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Pune Warriors India in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Over the years, the MCA Stadium in Pune has also served as home to Punjab Kings, now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant(s), and four-time champions Chennai Super Kings. BCCI has announced the MCA Stadium in Pune as one of the venues along with three other stadiums in Mumbai for IPL 2022.

The MCA stadium in Pune will host 15 of the 70 league stage matches, while the remaining matches will be played at the Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. So far, the MCA stadium has hosted 2 Tests, 7 ODIs, 3 T20Is, and 42 IPL matches including four matches in the ongoing IPL 2022.

The pitches in MCA Stadium are made of black soil, which is expected to favor spinners. The wickets at MCA Stadium are known to be batting friendly initially, but will also provide assistance to quality spin bowling. And going by the records, the chasing team has an advantage on the wickets at MCA Stadium in Pune.

However, in IPL 2022, the wickets have produced a lot of bounce, which is expected on a black soil pitch. The first two matches of the 2022 season saw the team batting first defend a total. But the third and fourth matches ended in the favor of the chasing team.

Rajasthan Royals beat SunRisers Hyderabad by 61 runs and Gujarat Titans prevailed over Delhi Capitals by 14 runs in the first two matches won by the team batting first. But both Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets and 7 wickets respectively in the last two games at Pune.
