In IPL 2022, former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori found no reason for MS Dhoni to play before Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja.

Both Dhoni and Jadeja, as per the Kiwi legend, are skilled readers of the play and can decide things on who should play first based on the game situation.

In the encounter against the Mumbai Indians, Dhoni came in at No. 7 and played (MI). Jadeja came first and was removed for three runs. MSD’s magnificent cameo of 28* in 13 balls with the game on the line helped Chennai to a thrilling victory.

If the side is chasing a high score, South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir believes MSD should bat before Jadeja.

“If CSK is chasing a huge total, Dhoni should bat first, ahead of Jadeja. Jadeja, on the other hand, has been outstanding. He’s a good batsman who can bat ahead of Dhoni. It makes no difference. It’s more about what kind of predicament Dhoni can find himself in,” he stated.

Daniel Vettori disagreed with Dhoni batting ahead of Jadeja:

“Dhoni simply goes out when he needs to go out. He’s always done it this way. He’ll assess the situation, and as a previous captain, you don’t want to obstruct him.

“If you press him on it, you might get into trouble. They (Dhoni and Jadeja) both know when it’s the appropriate moment to bat. They’ll interpret it correctly,” Daniel Vettori said on ESPNcricinfo.

On Monday, CSK will face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
