RR vs KKR: Jos Buttler Joins Elite List After Hitting 2nd Century In IPL 2022
Jos Butter brought up his 2nd hundred of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders as he piled up 103 runs from 61 balls.
This was his second hundred of the season as earlier in the tournament he had hit a century against Mumbai Indians.
Jos Buttler Is One of Only Six Batters With Multiple Centuries In A Single IPL Season
Jos Buttler has been in sublime form in the IPL as he has hit 375 runs in the tournament so far with 2 fifties and two hundred in 6 innings.
This was Buttler’s third century for RR. He had hit 124 runs last year in the first phase of the league.
Overall this is Buttler’s 3rd century in his last 7 innings in the IPL. 35, 100, 70, 13, 54 and 103 have been his scores in the 6 matches he has played so far.
Buttler who was retained by RR ahead of the mega auctions right now holds the orange cap as well. The 2nd player on the orange cap list is far behind Buttler.
Chris Gayle was the first player to hit 2 centuries in a season when he did that for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011. He had come in as a replacement player for Dirk Nannes that season.
Virat Kohli then did it in 2016 when he had that fantastic season where he hit 4 centuries in the season and scored close to 1000 runs (973 runs).
Other players to do so are Hashim Amla who did for Kings XI Punjab in 2017, and Shane Watson for Chennai Super Kings in 2018. Shikhar Dhawan achieved the feat in 2020 for Delhi Capitals when he became the first player in IPL’s history to hit two consecutive centuries.
Jos Buttler couldn’t have chosen a better day to hit an IPL century as 18th April was the day when the first-ever IPL game was played and Brendon McCullum had hit 158. Today, McCullum was sitting in the opposite dugout as Butter powered his way to the 2nd century of the season.
