IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore have appointed former Indian batter Sanjay Bangar as the head coach for the next two years.

RCB’s Director of Cricket Mike Hesson, who also served as the head coach of the team after Simon Katich made himself unavailable in the second leg of IPL 2021, announced in a video that Bangar would be the new head coach of the franchise.

Our work has already begun in terms of auction strategy: Sanjay Bangar

Bangar said that it is an honour for him to be appointed as the head coach of RCB and also mentioned that they have started building strategies regarding IPL 2022 mega auction.

It’s an honour and great opportunity to serve such a great franchise in the capacity of Head Coach. I have worked with some exceptional and talented members in the squad and can’t wait to take this team to the next level,” Bangar said in a video posted by RCB on its official Twitter handle.

“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done with the IPL Mega Auctions and the season following it, but I’m sure that together with the continued support of the management and the support staff, we can deliver the goods and bring cheer to our fans across the globe.

“Our work has already begun in terms of auction strategy. I would like to assure each of the RCB fans that we are committed to building a strong squad and we are committed to fulfilling the long-cherished dream of winning an IPL trophy,” he added.

RCB made it to the playoffs in IPL 2021 after finishing third on the points table with 18 points but were eliminated by Kolkata Knight Riders in the knockout stage.

Before the second leg in UAE, Virat Kohli announced that he would step down as RCB’s captain at the end of the season.

That means RCB would see a new captain after almost nine years and they will have to jostle their plans to retain their best players.
