Chennai Super Kings are set to commence their IPL 2021 UAE leg journey with the match against Mumbai Indians tomorrow (September 19). However, Faf du Plessis’ availability for the match is still unclear. Now CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has given an important update on Faf du Plessis’ availability in the CSK vs MI encounter of IPL 2021.

Faf du Plessis is recovering from a groin injury which he sustained during the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League 2021. Plessis was the skipper of team Saint Lucia Kings, which finished as the runners-up in the tournament after losing the final to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Due to the injury, the South African player did not feature in the last three games of CPL 2021.

Faf du Plessis Is In Isolation

In a conversation with Inside Sport, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan said that the management will assess Faf du Plessis’ injury after he comes out of quarantine.

“He is in isolation as arrived only last night. Once he is out, we will assess his injury and then take a call accordingly. But there is no need to worry right now,”  Vishwanathan said.

The right-handed batsman showed great form in CPL 2021. With 277 runs in 9 matches, he finished as the 4th highest run-getter in the tournament. He also smashed 1 century and 1 fifty. He also gave a magnificent batting show in the first half of IPL 2021.

Playing as an opener for Chennai Super Kings in 7 matches, Faf du Plessis smacked 320 runs at an outstanding average of 64. He also smacked 4 half-centuries, including a highest unbeaten knock of 95 runs in one game. Plessis is currently the third-highest run-getter in IPL 2021 and the top run-scorer for CSK.

If Plessis is unavailable for CSK’s opening game against Mumbai Indians, the team might give a chance to Robin Uthappa at the opening slot. CSK bought Robin Uthappa from Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2021 in a trade deal. However, Uthappa is yet to play his opening game for CSK in IPL 2021.
