Punjab Kings will start their IPL 2021 journey with the first game against Rajasthan Royals on April 12, 2021. The match will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Due to the poor performance of the team last season, Punjab Kings released many players from the team and bought new ones during IPL 2021 auction.

Punjab Kings released 9 players from the squad ahead of IPL 2021 auction. Glenn Maxwell, Sheldon Cottrell, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Hardus Viljoen, James Neesham, Krishnappa Gowtham, Karun Nair, Jagadeesha Suchith, and Tejinder Singh Dhillon were released by Punjab Kings. Later during the auction, Punjab Kings bought 5 overseas players and 3 domestic players.

Punjab Kings have powerful openers in the form of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle. Both of them are big hitters and give a strong start to the batting. KL Rahul was the leading run-scorer in IPL 2020 with 518 runs in 14 matches. He also smashed 5 half-centuries and 1 century. With Chris Gayle and KL Rahul as openers, Punjab Kings have strong opening batsmen in IPL 2021.

New Bowling Attack

Punjab Kings bought pacers Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith during IPL 2021 auction. Both haven’t played IPL but were spectacular during Big Bash League 2020-21. Therefore, Punjab Kings have new pacers in the team so they will have a new bowling attack in IPL 2021.  Mohammad Shami will be an added advantage in the bowling department.

Punjab Kings bought two big hitters during IPL 2021 auction. The franchisee bought Dawid Malan and Shahrukh Khan during the mini-auction. Both are great batsmen in the T20 format.
