IPL 2021: Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi Joins Chennai Super Kings As A Net Bowler

Afghanistan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi might not have an IPL contract; however, he has himself associated with the marquee T20 league as a net bowler. Reportedly, Chennai Super Kings has availed his services ahead of IPL 2021. Fazalhaq Farooqi left for India to join the Chennai Super Kings’ squad in Mumbai, where they are training for the 14th edition.

Fazalhaq Farooqi made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe a few days ago and finished with figures of 4-0-27-1 after taking the new ball. The 20-year old left-arm seamer has also featured in 12 first-class fixtures, six List A, and a couple of T20s. Farooqi will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, Robin Uthappa, and many others.

Afghanistan Cricket Board took to his official Twitter handle and announced it by posting the caption as “Young Fast bowler @fazalhaqfarooq6 left to India where he is roped in as a net bowler by @ChennaiIPL for the upcoming season of @IPL!” The Super Kings, who only have one left-arm seamer in Sam Curran, would be better served by Farooqi’s presence within their setup.

Meanwhile, captain MS Dhoni launched the Super Kings’ new outfit ahead of the 14th season of the extravaganza. The three-time champions’ jersey has three stars on the top of the franchise’s logo, depicting their three title-victories in 2010, 2011, and 2018, besides the camouflage as a tribute to India’s armed forces.

The yellow army endured a forgettable season last year as it turned out to be the first year that they did not reach the playoffs. Chennai Super Kings could win only six games and finished in the seventh position. They will open their campaign against the Delhi Capitals on the 10th of April in Mumbai against the Delhi Capitals.
