Delhi Capitals (DC) players Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer recently shared some fond memories of playing cricket from their childhood days. On Thursday, the franchise shared a video on their Twitter account, in which the two players went down memory lane, recalling their days of playing gully cricket.

Rishabh Pant, the current DC skipper, revealed that while playing in his native, Roorkee, he and his friends used to create stumps out of bricks that they picked up from nearby construction sites. He also funnily revealed that he used to run away with his bat after getting out.

“In my hometown Roorkee, there was an open ground close to my home. Some or the other construction used to go on around the place. So we used to bring bricks from the construction site and make wickets out of it by placing them in a horizontal manner and then play matches,” Rishabh Pant said in the video.
“Sometimes, I used to get out. And, because the bat being used was mostly mine, I used to take my bat and run away. I really miss these memories of childhood,” he chuckled.

I really enjoyed the fights when I played amateur cricket: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, the former DC captain who led the Capitals to the final last season, stated that he enjoyed the amateurish fights as a kid while playing the sport for just fun. Iyer returned to action in the UAE leg of the IPL 2021 after missing the India leg due to a shoulder injury. He was, however, not given the captaincy back as Rishabh Pant had led the side brilliantly in the first half of the tournament.

“I really enjoyed the fights when I played amateur cricket because no one actually knows to play and then they just start cheating and fight against each other. That is definitely one of the memorable moments. At the professional level, I would say reaching the (IPL) finals last year,” Iyer said.
Meanwhile, DC are placed second on the points table having acquired 16 points in 11 games. They have had a thumping season so far, sweeping aside teams in dominant fashion. Next, they will take on the Mumbai Indians, who defeated them in the final last season. The match will take place in Sharjah on Saturday afternoon.
