Cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar wants Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to be promoted in the team’s batting order.

IPL 2021 is all set to restart with the opening match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Sunday in Dubai.

With 10 points from seven matches, CSK are placed second on the points table as of now while their rivals MI are in the fourth position with eight points.

CSK had a poor season in IPL 2020, which was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The second leg of IPL 2021 is moved to UAE, experts fear that CSK’s performance might not be the same as seen in the first leg in Inida.

Ravindra Jadeja should bat ahead of MS Dhoni: Sanjay Manjrekar

Jadeja was in splendorous form in the first part of the tournament, he scored 131 runs from seven matches at the strike rate of 161.72. Jadeja smacked 36 runs from seven balls in RCB bowler Harshal Patel’s over.

Manjrekar, who in past was one of the critics of Jadeja, wants the southpaw to bat ahead of CSK skipper MS Dhoni.

“Jadeja should bat ahead of MS Dhoni. I think so (CSK will do well) because their approach has changed and Moeen Ali and Sam Curran have become impact players so they should perform better than the last time we saw them in UAE,” Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo.

Moeen Ali played an efficient role for the team while batting at no.3, a place where veteran player Suresh Raina usually bats. Ali scored 206 runs from six games at an impressive strike rate of 157.25 and also returned five wickets with the ball.

Manjrekar named the England all-rounder as the first overseas player CSK must play and asked for the inclusion of pace bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Lungi Ngidi.

If the track has more turn on it then according to Manjrekar, CSK should play South Africa spinner Imran Tahir else the team could opt between Adam Milne and Nathan Coulter-Nile.

“I think Moeen Ali, they should get both their fast bowlers in Hazlewood and Lungi Ngidi. And if there is a little bit of turn, Imran Tahir,” Manjrekar said on CSK’s overseas players’ selection.

“Toss up between Coulter-Nile and Adam Milne. There is enough batting for MI so I think Adam Milne,” he concluded.

Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians match will start at 7:30 PM live from Dubai International Stadium.
