Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag wants RCB captain Virat Kohli to win at least one IPL cup before he steps down from captaincy.

On Sunday, RCB posted a video of Kohli on its social media platforms, where the RCB skipper announced that he will be leaving the team’s captaincy by the end of this season.

Everyone wants Virat Kohli to win a trophy for the Bangalore franchise: Virender Sehwag

Kohli took over RCB’s captaincy in the mid-way of 2012 from New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori and will complete nine seasons at the helm of IPL 2021.

The fact that Kohli hasn’t been able to win an IPL with RCB despite reaching the finals thrice has always put pressure on him. Sehwag feels that the IPL trophy is very important for Kohli and his fans.

“IPL is important for every captain but I think more so for Virat as with his huge fan base, everyone wants Virat to win a trophy for the Bangalore franchise. If not multiple times then at least once in his tenure as captain,” Sehwag told PTI.

“This has been a strange year off the field due to pandemic and who knows it might be a different year for Bangalore from previous seasons and they go on to win the trophy,” said Sehwag.

I think Delhi and Mumbai will again be favourites: Virender Sehwag

Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians last year played the final in UAE as Mumbai won its fifth IPL title under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Sehwag feels that both the previous year’s finalists will be the favourites to win the trophy this year.

“Since the second half has been shifted to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, I think Delhi and Mumbai will again be favourites and the five-time champions are slightly ahead,” Sehwag said.

“Chennai’s average score in India was 201 during the first phase but I think when it comes to UAE tracks, they would be lacking a bit in batting firepower. If I have to pick one team, that will be Mumbai,” he added.

RCB will play against KKR on Monday in Abu Dhabi.
