England all-rounder Sam Curran on Monday talked about the predicament of playing for England against New Zealand in the Test series at home or playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021 if the team reaches the playoffs stages and possibly the finals.

This is because the IPL 2021 ends on May 30 and the first Test against New Zealand beginning on June 2 at Lord’s. If Sam Curran wants to play for England in home Tests, he will need to be back in England by May 26 or 28 and undergo quarantine before being allowed to join the team bio-bubble.

It is important to mention that the England-New Zealand Test series is not part of the ICC World Test Championship.

If Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Are In The Final, It Might Be A Bit Different: Sam Curran

England all-rounder Sam Curran has been part of the England Test squad at home thanks to his ability to swing the ball and his above-average batting capabilities. However, he said that in case, his franchise Chennai Super Kings reaches the final of the IPL 2021, he might have to rethink playing the New Zealand Tests.

“Obviously you have to see how the IPL tournament pans out, if you missed the qualifications I presume you’ll be most likely to be available for those Tests. But if you are in the final, it might be a bit different. It’s still quite a way away. No one really knows how it’s gonna pan out, so yeah fingers crossed. Will see how the IPL goes,” Curran told British media.

The left-arm all-rounder will be seen in action when England takes on India in the five-match T20I series starting March 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, Curran made a lasting impression for CSK in IPL 2020 with a total of 13 wickets from 14 games. He also impressed with the bat, amassing 186 runs including one fifty-plus score. The Chennai Super Kings had failed to make it into the playoffs for the very first time in tournament history in IPL 13, finishing 7th in the points table.
