Delhi Capitals pace bowler Kagiso Rabada is delighted to see middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer return to the squad for the second leg of IPL 2021.
Iyer missed the first half of the tournament as he had sustained a shoulder injury in the ODI series against England in March. Iyer, who led Delhi Capitals to their first final last year, was ruled out of IPL 2021.
In Iyer’s absence, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant took the charge of the team and the team management decided to continue the latter as the captain in the remaining matches.
It’s awesome to have Shreyas Iyer back: Kagiso Rabada
National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru gave clearance to Iyer to participate in the second leg of IPL 2021. Rabada said Iyer stabilises the balance of the team and feels the Mumbai player is in good spirits.
“It’s awesome to have Shreyas back. He’s a phenomenal batter and an integral part of our team. He’s good for the balance of the team. I’m sure he’s itching to play. He seems to be in good spirits and he seems to be hitting the ball well,” the fast bowler was quoted as saying in an official DC release.
We still have a lot of work to do: Kagiso Rabada
Ahead of the second leg, Delhi Capitals were leading the charts with 12 points from eight matches. Chennai Super Kings leapfrogged the Capitals on a superior net run rate after they won by 20 runs against Mumbai Indians on September 19.
Rabada said that they have been playing excellent cricket and have a good opportunity to qualify for the playoffs.
“I think the guys are in a good space as we have been playing some cricket since the first half of the tournament. That’s a positive for the team. It’s also nice to start the second half of the season being on top of the table. However, we still have a lot of work to do. We’ve given ourselves a good chance to qualify for the Playoffs and earn a spot in the final,” Rabada said.
Delhi Capitals will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 22 in Dubai.
