Former India cricketer and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman, Suresh Raina opines that his CSK teammate Ravindra Jadeja should be a regular player across formats for the national side.

Suresh Raina’s comments come in the backdrop of Jadeja’s brilliant all-round performance in the ongoing IPL 2021. The Saurashtra-born left-hander has scored 102 runs in 4 innings at an outstanding strike rate of 192.45, including a 37-run bashing he served to the purple cap holder Harshal Patel; he has picked 5 wickets so far and taken seven catches in addition to multiple run-outs.

While Jadeja has been a regular member of India’s ODI side for the last three years, since his return to the white-ball setup, and has been one of the first names on the sheet in home Tests for about 8 years.

However, he is yet to nail a spot in the T20 line-up and for Tests outside Asia with R Ashwin also in the side – it will be seen in the World Test Championship final versus New Zealand if Jadeja makes the cut ahead of Ashwin.

“He’s been batting really well, he’s been bowling really well, and he has taken 7 or 8 catches till now. Someone like Jadeja has to be in all three formats,” Suresh Raina said while speaking on CSK TV.

I would say he is one of the number one in the world: Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, who retired from international cricket last year, believes that Jadeja is the best all-rounder in the world – ahead of the likes of Ben Stokes and Jason Holder – and admired his work ethic.

Mr. IPL, as Suresh Raina is fondly known as, asserts that Jadeja can change the momentum of a game even not with bat or ball, but with his fielding where he is always a live wire and a threat to the opposition.

“He works really hard. I would say he is one of the number one in the world. He has been amazing. I love his attitude, how he throws his body at the ball and he enjoys fielding. I think he is one person who can really change the momentum.

“Whoever (is) the captain in the side really wants him in the team. When things are not in your favor, one catch or one run out can change the momentum. That’s what he has been doing,” the left-hander stated.

MS Dhoni’s side has lost its numero uno spot on the points table as Royal Challengers Bangalore take the top spot. However, CSK has the opportunity to with a victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday.
